Aging Ahead Profile
In 2016, Aging Ahead celebrated its 43rd year as a not-for-profit agency that provides services and information to people age 60 and older and their caregivers.  Aging Ahead services, programs, resources and assistance are offered to older adults living in the counties of St. Louis, Jefferson, Franklin and St. Charles.  As one of the 10 area agencies in Missouri, Aging Ahead is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services under Title III of the Older Americans Act of 1965. Additional funds available to the agency include Missouri General Revenue, participant contributions for services and community and corporate donations.

Aging Ahead operates 22 senior centers, maintains a comprehensive information and assistance service and provides a variety of programming and services to senior citizens.  Aging Ahead has contracted with numerous other agencies including senior centers, adult day care, ombudsman services, long-term care information, legal services, in-home and respite services and transportation to provide needed services for older adults.

Aging Ahead is governed by a 23-member board of directors. An advisory council assists the board on development and administration of Aging Ahead's area plan and the delivery of nutrition and support services. Membership of the board and council represents all four counties in our service area, and most members are age 60 or older.

The agency is active in several volunteer programs to improve services to the frail elderly.  These programs include the Silver Haired Legislature advocacy group, "Matter of Balance," "Healthy Living," SMP, Senior Medicare Patrol (to prevent Medicare Fraud), and the Christmas Day Meals Project. Local schools are working with Aging Ahead through the Meal Runner Program where students help deliver meals.

Aging Ahead targets services to older adults at all levels of mobility.  These services are provided by 132 staff members and approximately 2,000 dedicated volunteers.  Their individual and collective mission is to improve the lives of the more than 334,461 older adults in the four-county service area Aging Ahead strives to serve.

Aging Ahead Foundation

The Aging Ahead Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established to support the activities of Aging Ahead.  It supplements the funding Aging Ahead receives from other sources, such as the Federal and State Government.  The Aging Ahead foundation assists Aging Ahead with funds to expand programs such as Meals on Wheels, congregate meals, wellness programs and social activities at 21 senior centers, in-home services, transportation, adult day care, and much more. The Foundation also raises funding for the Supply Bank for Senior Independence, providing adult incontinence supplies which are not covered by Medicare or Medicaid, to low-and moderate-income seniors living alone on a contribution basis as well as other services. Donate Now

Missouri Association of Area Agencies on Aging

Service. Information. Advocacy.

The Missouri Association of Area Agencies on Aging (MA4) was founded in 1973 to serve as a statewide advocate and resource for older Missourians.  MA4 is comprised of the state’s 10 Area Agencies on Aging (AAA), which were created under the 1973 amendments to the Older Americans Act of 1965.  For more than 35 years, these local agencies have been providing vital services, programs and information to millions of Missourians and their caregivers, including legal services, home-delivered meals, disease prevention and health promotion, transportation, public benefits counseling, senior centers and in-home services. The 10 Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) provide a coordinated network of care in implementing statewide initiatives, which are designed to help older Missourians maintain their independence and give them a voice in articulating their concerns and changing needs.

As the official statewide association of these agencies, MA4 is dedicated to carrying out its mission of service, information and advocacy to improve the lives of older Missourians and to plan for the changes that will take place as the aging population grows in number and importance in the next decade.  To obtain more information about MA4, visit the MA4 website at http://www.ma4web.org/about.
